Trip to Pennsylvania

April 5th, 2009 by misadventuresofmarla

I should have posted this much sooner but I never get around to things until well after the fact.

We had an emergency visit to Pennsylvania in February. My little sister Angel was in ICU with pancreatitis, gallstones, and large pleural effusion on both lungs (fluid pooled around lungs). She was in for about two weeks. They had her on Morphine and inserted a tube in her side to drain her lungs. Poor girl had test after test and more medicine, IVs, and oxygen than anybody should have to deal with. She is only 20. She has since been released from the hospital. She is currently awaiting surgery to remove her gallbladder. Removing her gallbladder should clear up the pancreatitis.

She is also engaged to be married at the moment. They went to school together for years but do not really know each other that well. After dating for only a month, they’re engaged. As my views on marriage are not very popular I will hold my opinions on this matter and let her live her life her way. We’ll see how it turns out. Live, then learn. If she is happy, then I am happy for her (and him as well. I wish you much luck Ray, you will need it!) I have spoken to him briefly and he seems very nice so I wish them the best in their decisions.

The wedding planned for March of 2010 and I am to be the Maid of Honor. Yes, you read that right. Me, a maid of honor. With my social anxiety and sour taste for marriage, I will be a Maid of Honor at my sister’s wedding. As she is my sister and it’s her first wedding, I’ll need to hold my shit and be there smiling. Oh, and she has decided to put me in pastel pink. I am appalled and happy to be of service to her. My mother has made the stipulation that I am not to wear my “infamous” combat boots I’ve worn since 9th grade. (They are still going strong, thank you.) However, if I am to be pastel pink those boots will be displayed in all their worn out glory under that damn gown. I guarantee it.

Jeremy has also been asked to be one her bridesmaids! That will be a lovely treat that I hope to get on video.

While in Pa we got to briefly see some of our family members at Jeremy’s parents our (where we stayed with the cats) and some of my family at the hospital. We are planning a week visit in June to visit everybody, under better circumstances this time. We’ll also finally get to visit some friends we haven’t seen in forever and their families.
