Jeremy’s parents will be visiting at the end of the month. They’ve been trying to get down here for a visit since the beginning of the year and they finally got the time off to do it. They work for group homes for mentally challenged people so its hard for them to get the same vacation time together long enough to come down. Jeremy actually has the same vacation week as they do so he should be able to spend a lot of time with them.
They’ll be staying at our house while visiting so I just hope that we have the house by then and everything unpacked.
We were considering a trip to the outer banks with them this year but I’m not sure we’ll still be doing that. I guess it all depends on money since we’ve encountered all these extra expenses lately. My friend Holly has been vacationing there since she was little so she told us some nice spots to go. We’re supposed to avoid Kitty Hawk. She said its actually really boring and way too full of tourists to enjoy anything. She recommended Hatteras as the best place to visit. There is more exciting places to see in the Hatteras area and she said there aren’t as many tourists as say, Kitty Hawk. Nags Head is supposed to be really nice too but still quite full of tourists.
I’d like to visit Roanoke Island. I want to see “The Lost Colony”, its a play about the disappearance of the first English settlers there over 400 years ago. It runs all summer long and is near the original settlement area. I have to check the website yet to find out prices for the show. (www.thelostcolony.org)
Even if we end up not going with Jeremy’s parents we still want try to go by ourselves later in the year for a weekend. The trip through the outer banks should be interesting. I’m terrified of the ocean. Its a phobia I’ve had since childhood due to my phobia of certain sea creatures. I can’t even look at a picture of the ocean for more than a minute without getting chills and turning my head away. I am getting better though. I can actually force myself to look at a few pages of the outer banks travel guide we got.
Jeremy will have to tie me to the seat and put an execution bag over my head so it should be fun! I might even force myself to step on to one of the beaches for a minute and glance at the water. I guess that will depend on how drunk I can get myself and maybe see if my mom can send me some anti-anxiety medication.
*Update*
Found out later in the day that Jeremy’s parents no longer want to go to the outer banks. It will just be Jeremy and I later in the year or most likely next year. We did find some cottages on the beach in Hatteras that rent for $595/week on the off season. That is probably what we will do.
