President Obama Declares June “LGBT Pride Month”

Author: misadventuresofmarla  //  Category: ::Scattered::

I may have to slightly re-think my dislike of Obama. Maybe he can turn this nation into something to be proud of. Or at the very least, effect a few positive changes for the better of the people.

I have to say I was a little surprised and very proud to read this article:

President Obama Declares June “LGBT Pride Month”

Washington D.C., Jun 2, 2009 (CNA).- In a Monday proclamation, President Barack Obama declared June 2009 to be Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month, outlining his plan to advance homosexual political concerns.

Instead of acknowledging those who disagree with his stance on such issues, the president called on all Americans to “turn back discrimination and prejudice everywhere it exists.” His proclamation began by referring to “patrons and supporters” of the Stonewall Inn homosexual bar in New York City who rioted against police.

“Out of this resistance, the LGBT rights movement in America was born. During LGBT Pride Month, we commemorate the events of June 1969 and commit to achieving equal justice under law for LGBT Americans,” he said.

The President said he was proud to be the first president to appoint “openly LGBT candidates” to Senate-confirmed position in his first 100 days in office.

Saying there is “more work to be done” in the LGBT movement, President Obama advocated further protecting LGBT students and strengthening efforts against HIV/AIDS. He said he joined United Nations efforts to “decriminalize homosexuality around the world” and noted his advocacy of enhanced hate crime laws, civil unions, anti-discrimination laws, adoption rights for homosexuals, and ending the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy “in a way that strengthens our Armed Forces and our national security.”

“As long as the promise of equality for all remains unfulfilled, all Americans are affected. If we can work together to advance the principles upon which our Nation was founded, every American will benefit,” he asserted, saying Congress and the American people should work to promote “equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.”

U.S. advocacy of homosexual issues may be affecting its image overseas.

Last Friday, the Baghdad Embassy employee association hosted a Gay Pride Theme Party at an employee pub. A flyer for the event, reposted on the Washington Post’s website, encouraged attendees to “dress in drag or as a gay icon.”

A State Department source told the Washington Times that the party “throws gasoline on the fire” of Islamic insurgency and strengthens the perception that America is promoting decadence.

Holy Jesus God Damn!

Author: misadventuresofmarla  //  Category: ::Scattered::

I find it funny that a person feels their religion should give them authority over the world. That the choices of others should be based on their religious beliefs. That because they have a few more followers than another religion, that they should and can rule an entire country. How to honestly figure this? Are we teaching our children that minority should be stamped out? That less than 50% is worthless? Should we tell our children that because they received less than 50 percent of the votes for class president they are now worthless? Could you imagine a teacher telling a little girl that she does not matter anymore and can stop coming to class because she missed half the question on the test? That good intention mean nothing unless you have power and enough numbers to dominate.

Perhaps we should break it down very specifically. No one branch of any religion has 50% of the US population so should we exclude all religion from America? In fact, as of 2007,  http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/tables/09s0074.pdf , protestants, baptists, and Catholics had the highest numbers for the country. Protestants had 51.3%, Catholics had 23.9%, and baptist had 17.2%. Protestants win. Looks like we all have to become protestants now. (I think I know some catholic who are going to be mighty pissed off.) Hmm, I suppose since protestants believe faith is the salvation of the soul even over being a good person it looks like we can all act like assholes and murder ’til our hearts. We will still get a reward! YAY!

Why do I not see the followers of other less “popular” (read: psychotic) religions daily creating unneeded stress and protest on others lives? They seem to think the bible gives them ruling over others. Why do they think their rules, views, and beliefs should extent to those who practice other faiths?

Do they not see religion is one other most dominant causes of violence in the world? Have they never heard of the middle east? Why do they feel the need to further alienate, segregate, and fuel the fire of hatred towards other faiths? Do they not see why Catholicism and Christianity have such a bad reputation? That if they would just worry about whether they are living up their own beliefs rather than worry about what others are doing the world would be a more tolerable & peaceful place for everybody.

Why is it okay to see a million churches created in the name of Jesus Christ but not okay to have a million places of worship erected in the name other other gods or goddesses? Could you imagine the faces if you plopped a satanic church next to a catholic church. Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue! The catholic would be in an uproar, call police and any other authority they could find a number for, grab the pitchforks (how ironic!) and storm the satanic church trying to run them out of town. Little do they realize those satanist would turn out to be their friends, neighbors, doctors, grocery store clerks, and child’s teachers. It has been widely speculated over the years, that many conceal their true religious beliefs for fear of persecution. Even going as far as attending churches with the masses only to come home and privately practice their true faith. How sad. I hope someday they feel comfortable enough to stand up and stop hiding who they are.

Would parents of, lets say, luthern children be understanding if their children came home from school in tears because a group of, Scientology or pagan children ridiculed them for worshiping Jesus Christ? I’m sure there would be hell to pay to both those children and their parents; as well as schools being notified, meetings called, and those Scientologist or Pagan parents’ parenting skills would be called into question. Yet, their children may to do this to the children of other faiths and they are patted on the back. A job well done? Those parents are proud inside and out that their children take their faith so far as to publicly cry out against another child’s faith.

Sometimes when I think of the overwhelming number of ignorant and intolerant worshipers in this world it makes me want to never have a child. Then proceed to throw myself off a bridge in small protest of the sick world they have created…

But I won’t because I will not give them the satisfaction of having another out of their way to conquer the world and beat their beliefs into the heads of others. (*waves to the pope*)

Of course, not all are bad. Just the majority of faithful are bigoted, overly opinionated, and unrealistic people. There are many tolerant people out there who mind their own business. I commend you for that. I’m truly sorry that so many ruin the reputation of your faiths for the few of you mature enough to understand difference of opinion and to not childishly act out upon those who politely do not agree with you.

quick Polymer clay goodies update

Author: misadventuresofmarla  //  Category: ::Craft Projects::

I haven’t been crafting again as I’ve been busy with other things:

  • Yovile
  • Feng Shui prosperity journal (I may post this later, depends…)
  • Reading many books on various subjects. Finished the sookie stackhouse series, read a few affiliate marketing books which I won’t list because they sucked.  Some time management books (have not finished yet,ha! I suck at managing my time.) , a book about blogging styles – waste of time for the most part but somebody said it was really funny. Seems I have a different idea of funny. I don’t recommend that one either so I’m not listing it. I have many more books to go…I have an on going reading list I will never finish, not in the next 10 life times anyway.
  • I’ve been trying to organize our bedroom and craft desk.
  • Gardening here and there but not as much as Jeremy has.
  • And just other day to day stuff that I don’t need to list because who cares how many times a person does laundry, dishes, water plants, reads, writes, budgets bills, pays bills, grocery shops, talks to long distance family and friends, and so on.

My point is, crafting will comence SOON. ( I have to go to PA for 9 days from June 22nd to the 3oth.)

I have a few projects I’m very excited to work on. I can’t say what they are exactly as a few of them are gifts for Jeremy and family members but… some are polymer clay. Which I’ve been dying to get back into but I always feel I should be doing something more “important” around the house.

I’ll have some felt projects coming up too but they will also be christmas gifts for friends and family.

One of the gifts is already know about, a polymer clay INUYASHA incense burner for Jeremy’s brother. I’ll take pictures or videos of that at various stages and post about it. It will be a time consuming (and clay consuming) project but I’m very attached to that project as I’m an Inuyasha fan and it was my idea. That means I think it’s going to be swell but will turn out like shit ; ) I’m hoping I’m wrong, of course, but I’m not very good at polymer clay yet.

The other project I’m terribly excited about is a halloween tree. Jeremy and I are not fans of Christmas. (We celebrate Christmas for are family. Or shall I say participate. It makes the family happy to recieve gifts and cards and so we ablige. Doesn’t matter. We take it or leave it. For me, it holds no meaning whatsoever, but its ’special’ to our families and we respect that.) Now Halloween is our holiday of glee and passion! Everyday of the year is just a step closer to Halloween. We have our traditions. We also have a real black tree, decorate it, do baking, drinking, presents, and just have fun.  A good ol’ cheerful doom and gloom fashion. What more could you ask for? (Halloween is also the time we spend too much money on Halloween goodies at the stores. Halloween is pretty much the only time we really shop for anything. Its really the only time we find items similar to our tastes.)

This year I’m taking one of our traditions a step further. I’m going to hand make the tree and all the ornaments. Table topped size all out of polymer clay or mixed media real tree with clay. Not sure yet. To have it done in time I should have started last halloween but we’ll see how far I get. I have ideas for about 50 ornaments so far but I add to that list every week.  Cats, bat, skull, and all the usual. Katamari, helena bonham carter, repo the genetic opera, rocky horror, cigarettes, E.A.Poe, Rasputina, and other stuff. As I finish pieces I’ll make a serial post for them. (Meaning Part 1, part 2, etc.)

I’m really tired at the moment and rambled like mad. I think this post is all over the place…. I wonder if I lost anybody in jumble of words?!

In Numerology I’m a 1

Author: misadventuresofmarla  //  Category: ::Scattered::

To get your numerology number you add up your birthdate as follows:

Using my birthday as an example –

10(month)+14(day)+1+9+8+4(year)=46

Your goal is to get a single digit. So I have to add 4+6 = 10

Still a double digit so again, I add those together. 1+0= 1

My numerology number is a 1.

Here is what my life path means:

The 1 Life Path is about developing your own will, individuality, decisiveness, and expressing your creativity. Being a caring, considerate leader is as important as is being on your own and forging your own path. Standing on your own two feet is important.

Vocations:

Own business

Construction

Director

Traits:

Leadership

Determination

Creativity

Challenges:

Conceit

Selfishness

Zealousness

That’s very accurate, in my opinion of myself.

Here is Jeremy:

8+26+1+9+8+0=52

5+2=7

Jeremy is a 7.

Here is his life path:

The 7 Life Path is about learning that “You reap what you sow.” Planning, Organizing, and Simplicity are very important for you. Generally you are peaceful. Your journey is one in which being aware and open is very important. Although you may enjoy being analytical, sticking your head in the sand just wont do for you. Learn to listen to your inner judgment and you will do well.

Vocations:

Teacher

Researcher

Scientist

Religious leader

Traits:

Analytical

Wisdom

Challenges:

Aloof

Egocentric

Selfish

Inhibited

I think that fits Jeremy pretty well.

Just wanted to share that…

Enneagram Personality Test Results

Author: misadventuresofmarla  //  Category: ::Scattered::

I just wanted to post my Enneagram Personality(s) because they are pretty dead on.

If you don’t know what Enneagram is visit this link to read about it and take the test for yourself. Comment what your own Enneagram personality is.

I am both Enneagram Type 6 – The Loyalist, and Enneagram Type 5 – The Investigator. I scored the same percent/score for both of those. Wings are 5w6 & 6w5.

Enneagram Type 6 – The Loyalist

Conflicted between trust and distrust
People of this personality type essentially feel insecure, as though there is nothing quite steady enough to hold onto. At the core of the type Six personality is a kind of fear or anxiety. This anxiety has a very deep source and can manifest in a variety of different styles, making Sixes somewhat difficult to describe and to type. What all Sixes have in common however, is the fear rooted at the center of their personality, which manifests in worrying, and restless imaginings of everything that might go wrong. This tendency makes Sixes gifted at trouble shooting, but also robs the Six of much needed peace of mind and tends to deprive the personality of spontaneity. The essential anxiety at the core of the type Six fixation tends to permeate the personality with a sort of “defensive suspiciousness.” Sixes don’t trust easily; they are often ambivalent about others, until the person has absolutely proven herself, at which point they are likely to respond with steadfast loyalty. The loyalty of the Six is something of a two edged sword however, as Sixes are sometimes prone to stand by a friend, partner, job or cause even long after it is time to move on.

Sixes are generally looking for something or someone to believe in. This, combined with their general suspiciousness, gives rise to a complicated relationship to authority. The side of the Six which is looking for something to believe in, is often very susceptible to the temptation to turn authority over to an external source, whether it be in the form of an individual or a creed. But the Six’s tendency towards distrust and suspicion works against any sort of faith in authority. Thus, two opposite pulls exist side by side in the personality of ennea type Six, and assume different proportions in different individuals, sometimes alternating within the same individual.

The truly confounding element when it comes to typing Sixes is that there are two fundamentally different strategies that Sixes adopt for dealing with fear. Some Sixes are basically phobic. Phobic Sixes are generally compliant, affiliation and cooperative. Other Sixes adopt the opposite strategy of dealing with fear, and become counter phobic, essentially taking a defiant stand against whatever they find threatening. This is the Six who takes on authority or who adopts a dare devil attitude towards physical danger. Counter phobic Sixes can be aggressive and, rather than looking for authorities, can adopt a rebellious or anti-authoritarian demeanor. Counter phobic Sixes are often unaware of the fear that motivates their actions. In fact, Sixes in general, tend to be blind to the extent of their own anxiety. Because it is the constant back drop to all of their emotions, Sixes are frequently unaware of its existence, as they have nothing with which to contrast it.

Because Sixes so frequently fail to appreciate the extent of their own fear, they often mistype themselves. It is common for instance, for female Sixes to mistype as Twos, especially if they are identified with a helper role, but Sixes have a much more ambivalent attitude towards relationships than do Twos, who generally know exactly what they want. Sixes, failing to recognize their anxiety, can mistype as Nines, but Nines have the ability to relax and to trust in others, neither of which come easily to Sixes. Sixes can mistype as Fours, especially if they have artistic inclinations, but they lack the Four’s self-absorption. They can mistype as Fives, especially if they are intellectual, as many Sixes are, but unlike Fives, Sixes tend to be practical. Finally, counter phobic Sixes can easily mistype as Eights, but they lack the Eight’s self-certainty.

Enneagram Type 5 – The Investigator

Thinkers who tend to withdraw and observe

People of this personality type essentially fear that they don’t have enough inner strength to face life, so they tend to withdraw, to retreat into the safety and security of the mind where they can mentally prepare for their emergence into the world. Fives feel comfortable and at home in the realm of thought. They are generally intelligent, well read and thoughtful and they frequently become experts in the areas that capture their interest. While they are sometimes scientifically oriented, especially with the Six wing, just as many Fives are drawn to the humanities and it is not at all uncommon for Fives to have artistic inclinations. Fives are often a bit eccentric; they feel little need to alter their beliefs to accommodate majority opinion, and they refuse to compromise their freedom to think just as they please. The problem for Fives is that while they are comfortable in the realm of thought, they are frequently a good deal less comfortable when it comes to dealing with their emotions, the demands of a relationship, or the need to find a place for themselves in the world. Fives tend to be shy, non intrusive, independent and reluctant to ask for the help that others might well be happy to extend to them.

Fives are sensitive; they don’t feel adequately defended against the world. To compensate for their sensitivity, Fives sometimes adopt an attitude of careless indifference or intellectual arrogance, which has the unfortunate consequence of creating distance between themselves and others. Trying to bridge the distance can be difficult for Fives, as they are seldom comfortable with their social skills, but when they do manage it, they are often devoted friends and life long companions.

Fives are usually somewhat restrained when it comes to emotional expression, but they often have stronger feelings than they let on. Few people know what is going on beneath the surface, as Fives have an often exaggerated need for privacy and a deep seated fear of intrusion. Because of their sensitivity and their fears of inadequacy, Fives fear being overwhelmed, either by the demands of others or by the strength of their own emotions. They sometimes deal with this by developing a minimalistic lifestyle in which they make few demands on others in exchange for few demands being made on them. Other Fives make their peace with the messiness of life and engage it more fully, but they almost always retain their fears that life is somehow going to demand more of them than they can deliver.

Fives, especially with the Four wing, sometimes mistype themselves as Fours. Such Fives recognize that they have strong emotions and don’t identify with the often extremely cerebral portrait of type Five. But, Fives, unlike Fours, always retain some degree of discomfort when it comes to the expression of their emotional states. However much facility they may gain with it, the language of emotion is not their native tongue.

I’m running on 20 hours without sleep at the moment so I’m not writing much here right now. I just wanted to make sure I posted those because I find this very interesting and the results were dead on.

Enjoy… I’m off to eat and then hopefully sleep. Jeremy is making carrot cake from scratch, YUM!

Spider Bite

Author: misadventuresofmarla  //  Category: ::Scattered::

I got bite by a spider on the 18th of this month (April). It sucked for the first few days. It was painful and swollen and my leg felt like it weighted a ton. After a week the bite was stil there but it wasn’t painful or heavy feeling anymore; just had a large lump underneath it. It’s been exactly two weeks today since I got my bite and it’s still there but healing it seems. Thought I’d share some pictures with you guys.

Day 1 Picture: Not very good or flattering but you can sort of see how large the swollen area was…

Day 6 Picture: Bright red and purple-ish bite site and pretty swollen still.

Day 9 Picture: Pretty red still and a large lump under the bump that extends outward past bite site.

Today, Day 14 Picture: Less red and not swollen – Still has a small lump though and scar tissue

Still not sure what bite me. I never saw it. I went to sleep fine and woke up in the morning with an ache on my leg and within hours it was red and crazy swollen. I suppose I shouldn’t assume spider bite but I think that most likely what it was. *Check under you covers before you go to sleep if you live in the south and it’s summer, lol!* We have black widows and brown recluses down here but the bite doesn’t look bad enough to be either of those. I found two spider in the week following getting bite and “saved one”. Just in case I would of had to go the doctor but I lucked out and never needed to.

Culprit? I couldn’t get a get picture because he is really small. Just a cute little brown thing with long legs.

Homemade Veggie Pizza

Author: misadventuresofmarla  //  Category: ::Scattered::

We went to Trader Joe’s in Charlotte last week and bought lots of goodies. We only go once in a while since its an hour plus drive from here. It’s the closest Trader’s Joe’s aside from Cary which is the same distance as Charlotte. We’re going to try to start going at least once a month though because we love it and its sort of worth all the gas to get there and back. Anyway, while we were there we stocked up on their 99 cent bags of pizza doughs. We got 2 whole wheat and 2 garlic and herb. We made one of the garlic and herb this week. The pizza came out pretty awesome.

Here is the toppings we put on it:

Onion

Mozzarella

Radish

Green Pepper

Homemade spicy herb pasta sauce

Arugala

Mushrooms

Black Olives

Grape Tomatoes

Cucumbers

Olive Oil

Sea Salt
